I've heard that if I put a 350 in its place they will fit the same but I will have to put a new computer in...Is this true? Also, I've seen the camaro iroc Z 305 TPI engines out there. Chevrolet . 350 Turbo Transmission TroubleshootingThe Turbo-Hydramatic 350, commonly referred to simply as the "Turbo," was a three-speed automatic transmission first produced by General Motors in 1969. The Turbo 350 was known as a durable transmission and was used extensively by GM. However, over time the Turbo 350 will develop problems, as with any type of transmission, but troubleshooting this transmission is easier than many other types due to its basic design. No Drive in "D" Position If the transmission fails to propel the vehicle forward when the transmission selector is in the "D" position, the problem is probably a lack of transmission fluid, a linkage which needs adjustment or low fluid pressure. Check whether the transmission has enough fluid in it first, since this is most common reason and because the fluid level is easy to check. Withdraw the transmission's dipstick underneath the hood with the engine running, then check the fluid level on the dipstick. If the transmission has enough fluid, check whether the manual linkage on the driver's side of the transmission requires adjustment. Finally, the transmission may not be able to produce enough pressure to circulate the fluid throughout the engine. A failure to produce sufficient pressure is typically caused by a damaged or missing O-ring seal or a blocked oil strainer. No Drive in "R" Position If the transmission fails to propel the vehicle backward when the transmission selector is in the "R" position, the problem is probably a lack of transmission fluid, a linkage which needs adjustment, or a problem with the valve body. As in Section 1, check the transmission's fluid level first, followed by the manual linkage on the driver's side of the transmission. If the problem persists, the control valve body gasket may be either leaking or damaged. If the valve body has recently been removed from the transmission, make sure that the low-reverse check ball was installed. Due to its small size, it is easily forgotten. Slipping If the transmission slips, meaning that it does not accelerate the vehicle smoothly, check the fluid level first. If the transmission has enough fluid, the vacuum modulator could be defective, the modulator's valve may be sticking, or the oil strainer may be plugged or leaking. If the problem persists, the forward, intermediate and direct clutch plates may be slipping. If so, the face of the plates will appear burnt. To avoid damaging the replacement plates, make sure that the seals and oil rings are in good condition, as these are the most common causes of burnt clutch plates. Noise If the transmission produces an irregular noise, the noise is likely coming from the transmission's pump. The pump will produce noise if the transmission's fluid level is either too high or too low, if the fluid is contaminated with water, or if the transmission's driving gear teeth are damaged. Also check the planetary pinions, the sun gear, and both the front and rear internal gears for tooth damage. Finally, check the condition of the engine's two motor mounts. If one or both of the motor mounts are damaged, the engine will cause the transmission to shift, which will in turn cause the transmission to produce noise.
Chevrolet . How to Troubleshoot a Chevrolet TransmissionA Chevrolet transmission is built to be reliable, but even these complicated components can fail after 100,000 miles. In many cases this is because of improper maintenance. Low fluid levels account for many transmission problems, which in turn lead to more serious problems and even total transmission failure. Since fixing a transmission can be expensive, you'll want to troubleshoot your Chevy transmission problems before making any repairs. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Rag Transmission fluid Funnel Step by Step : 1 Check the transmission oil level. Pull the transmission dipstick out of the transmission filler neck, which is on the backside of the engine. The dipstick will usually be an orange or yellow looped handle. Wipe off the end of the transmission dipstick on a rag. Put the dipstick back into the transmission and pull it out again. Check the dipstick. The fluid level should be between the upper and lower marks on the end of the dipstick. If it's not, add transmission fluid through the filler neck using Chevy-approved transmission fluid and a funnel. 2 Start the engine and shift the Chevy into gear. If you notice a clunking sound as you do this, it is likely the transmission mounts. Chevrolet's transmission mounts do fail occasionally on high-mileage vehicles, especially trucks. A professional mechanic can replace these. 3 Check for transmission oil leaks. Older Chevy vehicles are notorious for rear main seal transmission leaks. You'll see a dark red fluid (or a puddle) underneath your vehicle directly under the transmission. This is usually followed by a decrease in transmission oil levels, but it may not be immediately apparent. Tips & Warnings For specific information about your Chevy transmission, consult the particular vehicle's manual (see Resources). First Things First If you have reason to believe that your vehicle is having a problem, try to get to the right-hand shoulder of the road, especially if you're on a highway. Very often, if a vehicle is going to do its swan song while in motion, it will give you a couple of hints first. If you can recognize those hints as signs of impending disaster, you'll be able to get out of traffic before the car dies completely. All the following symptoms are good reasons to head for the side of the road immediately, park, and check things out: Part IV: Dealing with On-the-Road Emergencies. 434 945

Your car suddenly runs roughly. The engine is misfiring. You hear unfamiliar noises. Your car is pulling to one side. As you pull your vehicle off the road to investigate the cause of the malfunction, keep the following safety procedures in mind: Chevrolet . Average height of a police car?
Subaru Loyale. * Try to coast along the shoulder until you're well away from any curves in the road behind you. Doing so pays off when you're ready to get back onto the road — because you can spot oncoming traffic before it's on your tail. If the car dies right on the highway and you can't get off the road, don't get out of the car! I know that sitting in a dead car with traffic piling up behind you is unnerving, but attempting to cross a high-speed freeway on foot is suicide. Most heavily traveled highways are also heavily patrolled, and a nice highway patrol officer will be along before you know it. Once the officer is on the scene, it's a simple matter of stopping traffic long enough to push your vehicle to the right-hand shoulder. When you reach the side of the road, take these additional safety precautions: Roll down the window on the driver's side, hang out a white cloth or piece of paper, and roll the window back up to secure it in place. The cloth or paper also alerts drivers to proceed around you. If you can easily reach the passenger-side window without getting out of the car, do the same on that side. Try not to obstruct your ability to see out the windows. If you know that you're going to need roadside assistance, use your cell phone to call your auto club or the highway patrol. If you have no cell phone — and you can see an emergency call box nearby — use the call box to call for help. If no call box is handy, you're probably better off hanging a white cloth or piece of paper out the window and waiting for the highway patrol to spot you. In these days of daytime carjackings, walking along the highway alone can be dangerous. To avoid being hit by a passing vehicle, don't work on your car from the left (driver's) side, unless you can do so while standing well away from the nearest traffic lane. If you can, move the car farther off the road, and try to reach into the trouble area from the front or right side, keeping away from traffic. That goes for changing left-side tires, too. .Chapter 21: What to Do If Your Car Drops Dead or Won't Start A 2 C If it's daylight, put on your emergency blinkers or your left-turn signal to alert oncoming traffic to the fact that your car isn't moving. This is not a good idea at night because motorists coming up behind you may think that your vehicle is still rolling along the highway and run right into the rear end of your car. (Drunk drivers are especially prone to this sometimes fatal error.) If it's nighttime, place warning lights or reflective markers about 6 feet behind the vehicle to alert traffic. If you have neither of these, either turn on the interior lights manually or leave the right-hand car door open so that the interior lights stay on. Chevrolet . Why would my car die on highway?

Troubleshooting the Problem After you're safely off the road and ready to deal with the situation, try to view what happened in dietary terms: Your vehicle lives on a mixture of air, fuel, and fire — if it won't go, it's not getting one of the following ingredients. Air Air is simple — and probably not the problem. Your vehicle gets its air through the air cleaner. Unless the air filter inside the air cleaner is totally clogged, your engine should be getting enough air to keep it going. Your choke or throttle may be stuck in the closed position, which could keep your car from breathing properly. To find out whether this is the problem, do the following.
